The historically significant Castell d'Alaró is locatd on the mountain Puig dÁlaró (824 m) On the way to the castle, you pass the rustic mountain restaurant Es Verger. From the castle you have a wonderful panoramic view of almost the whole island.

The defense of the Castell d’Alaró is inextricably linked to the tragic history of the Kingdom of Mallorca. How far back the history of the fortress of Puig d’Alaró goes is in the dark. The Arabs called it the Christian Castle. It is said to have withstood the attacks of the Moors for eight years when they conquered Mallorca at the beginning of the 10th century.

Getting there:
From Sa Rapita in the direction of Llucmajor, there on the MA 19 motorway to Palma, at exit 3 in the direction of Andratx / Port d'Alcúdia. At exit 3B in Autovia Palma-Sa Pobla on the MA 13 towards Inca. Drive to exit 17 towards Consell / Alaró / Binissalem / Lloseta. From here follow the signs to Castell d'Alaro!

Coming from the village of Alaro, take a narrow, winding road to the parking lot of the Es Verger restaurant. (Tip: Here you should definitely plan a rest in the rustic mountain inn, especially the leg of lamb from the stone oven is known and popular on the island!)
From here the ascent to Puig d´ Alaró begins on shady, wide hiking trails. You could still drive a bit this way, but you definitely need an off-road vehicle. But since there are hardly any opportunities to avoid oncoming vehicles, it is better to start walking from Es Verger. The immediate ascent to the Castell leads over a steep stone path, which is also supplemented with stairs. Once at the top, you can visit old tower and wall remains, admire the Ermita de Nostra Senyora and enjoy a fantastic view to all sides of the island. A small coffee shop offers drinks and snacks.
